For the past while, I have been a regular on the show “Run With It” as a lifestyle expert. We chatted about winter foods to help fuel you up for this season! I love sharing this stuff because I know how hard it is to stay healthy during the time of cookies and multiple desserts per meal, but there is a way. Here are some details on how to stay fueled up so you can be the best you in the months to come.

What makes it a bit easier is fuelling up with the right foods to keep your energy up and get you out the door. I have brought a few recommendations.

Have you tried Zespri Kiwi? It is sweeter than green kiwifruit with a tropical-sweet taste, smooth skin and yellow flesh. It’s nice to imagine that were on a tropical beach eating our kiwi, on those dark, rainy Vancouver days. They’re an excellent source of vitamin C, containing 3 times more vitamin C than oranges. In fact, one Zespri SunGold covers your daily needs of vitamin C, which in addition to boosting immunity, can help with mood and vitality. A serving of kiwifruit provides the same amount of potassium as a banana. Potassium helps our muscles store and utilize energy. You can buy them at a variety of retailers including Save On, Superstore, Costco, Choices, Whole Foods and many more. Just check out their website for more details zesprikiwi.com

Next we have some options from Glory Juice. Glory juice is a great easy way to get some goodness in your body. One of the best  things about Glory Juice is everything is made in-house and everything is 100% organic, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, GMO-free and Vegan friendly. Everything is incredibly nutrient dense which means you’re getting lots of healthy nutrition to support your body. I personally love their bowls, here are some of my favorites that you can easily pick up for lunch or dinner.

  1. Warm & Hearty Bowl– It’s the perfect time of year if you are looking for something warm and hearty to fill you up while also sticking to your health regime. This is the classic Glory bowl. It’s made up of a base of our organic house-made soup, quinoa or lentils, massaged kale salad, beets, carrots, pumpkin seeds and house-made cashew garlic and cilantro lime dressings. It makes the perfect warming winter lunch bowl.
  2. Cauliflower & Chickpea Bowl – A favourite lunch option amongst our regulars. This bowl contains a quinoa or lentil base, roasted cauliflower, chickpeas and red onion in a sweet and smoky tahini, maple and paprika dressing, topped with our spirulina infused hummus, pickled onions, carrots and cashew garlic dressing. Deliciously creamy and filling!
  3. Mango Maca Smoothie Bowl – The mango maca smoothie bowl is one of our most popular smoothie bowls. It’s a blend of house-made organic almond mylk, cold pressed turmeric, ginger & citrus juice, mango, banana, coconut oil, maca and coconut nectar. Topped with our house-made organic granola and various superfoods. It’s a little sweet, a little spicy and is immune boosting and anti-inflammatory!

They have 4 locations in the Vancouver area, and opening a new location in Yaletown this winter!

Another way to get nutrients and protein in is with Bounce Foods. Based on the philosophy ‘Eat Good, Feel Good, Do Good’, Bounce Foods aims to inspire people to live a full and vibrant life through great nutrition, which is why I’ve included them in my recommendations. Some of their products include Bounce Protein Balls which are easy to grab when you’re on the run, they are offered in 9 delicious gluten-free flavours with high protein and vegan options. Another great product is Bounce Bites, these are offered in 3 flavours and offer a great bite-sized snack in a resealable pouch. Bounce Balls retail from $2.49/ball and Bounce Bites retail from $5.99. For more information or to order online go to ca.bouncefoods.com!

Lastly, ow that we are back to our fall routines, it’s time for a health checklist, especially when it comes to our digestive system. How our body feels internally definitely affects how we look and feel on the outside. I don’t need to tell you how important it is to take care of your body so that you can stay feeling healthy and functioning on an optimal level. But when there’s internal digestive issues occurring and constipation is the problem Lax-A will help, it’s the number 1 doctor – recommended laxative in its class. Many lifestyle factors can contribute to this, like travel, a lack of fibre in your diet, certain medications, pregnancy, or stress. There are a number of ways you can incorporate this into your daily health routine. You can add the powder to your morning glass of water or throw it in your smoothie, you can take a supplement or if you prefer there is an overnight option. This is an important topic that still remains a taboo and not often discussed in public. However, a fun fact is that nearly a quarter of Canadians are affected by this issue every year! For more details just go to www.laxasolutions.com.

Looking forward to sharing with you how to stay healthy this holiday season. Keep checking the blog for tips on how to fight those temptations and feel AMAZING!

Have a fabulous week,

xx n
