Double Date at the Deighton Cup

Happy Saturday babes!! This is my second Saturday in a row with a horse themed event…maybe this is a sign I need a pony? Last weekend Gary and I went on a double date with our friends Kelly and Steve to the Deighton Cup! For any of you who haven’t been, the Deighton Cup is a Kentucky Derby esque horse race event held at the Vancouver Race Tracks. The soundtrack is champagne bottles clinking and attendees cheering and booing as their horses cross the finish line. I love watching the races but the real attraction is the fashion. Dress-up lovers from far and wide pull together their best looks, and their best hats (I’ve never seen so many fascinators in one place).

My look was a vintage polkadotted body skimming dress inspired by Kate Middleton’s timeless fashion from Mine & Yours Co. I love how she can pull together a look with classic shapes and modern patterns. My outfit was topped off (literally) with an up-do and a gorgeous fascinator from The Granville Island Hat Shop. I was shooting for best dressed, and won second to a gorgeous woman with a huge elaborate hat! My friend Prevail (from Swollen Members) won best dressed man – I was hoping we’d share the prize. Gary and Steve were both handsome in Indochino suit jackets.

When you first arrive at the event, you can go through and bet on the horses for the upcoming rounds. Gary and Steve were spearheading the betting… but unfortunately my man isn’t a very good horse better (love you Gary)! Steve suggested maybe I take a turn, and we won $150 – my secret is betting on the horses with the best names. Sorry Gary – I’m taking on all the betting next year.

It was such a lovely day with only a drizzle of rain, in typical Vancouver fashion. It was great to see all my friends, who all looked GORGEOUS! After the event, Gary, Steve, Kelly and I went for dinner at Craft in Olympic Village; half the people were there still dressed up from the Deighton Cup. It was so cute seeing people in their fancy hats scattered around the city!

I’m already planning next years outfit – I’m thinking a strapless Marilyn Monroe in Some Like It Hot inspired get up. I’m going to go even bigger with my fascinator. I’m heading to the Pacific Polo Cup today, and can’t wait to see how the fashion differs from the Deighton Cup.

I’ll keep you guys posted!

Hope you all have a great weekend.
